About Me
My Background
In 2017 I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree (with a major in Environmental Horticulture - Landscape Design; and a minor in Horticultural Science) from MSU-Bozeman. After a 1-year internship that focused on municipal residential water use and conservation, I worked for a design / build company, and a nursery, for one season where I cared for, sold, and planted landscape plants. Then I worked for my alma mater for 5 years, where I designed annual planters and landscape beds, and led crews that maintained landscape beds (mulching, pruning, hedging, trimming, and replacing plants), and planted and maintained annual planters and vegetable / herb gardens. In 2023, during my last year at MSU, I completed a Master of Science degree (with a major in Land Resources & Environmental Science) while I was a teaching assistant for 3 courses. Shortly after receiving the degree, I moved to Lincoln, NE to pursue an opportunity with a company to design landscapes and help homeowners troubleshoot landscaping issues. After approximately 1.5 years, I decided to pursue freelance consulting. I've been working in the landscaping industry for about 10 years.
The Goal
The mission of Empowerment Landscape Consulting is to empower people who want to get involved with DIY projects (to care for, renovate, and/or transform their outdoor space) by sharing knowledge and offering solutions (design, product guidance, and service referrals). You may find a lower design cost at a nursery or design / build company, or a waived design charge if you intend to work with them to install the project. Where I strive to offer a competitive difference is in product detail, depth of guidance, and tailoring service as best as I can to customer context. My goal is to help you save money down the road by feeling comfortable entertaining maintenance and/or project installation on your own and at your own pace, with similar (or more) knowledge about the task to a crew member / the person drawing a planting plan. I look forward to meeting beginner gardeners and green thumbs.
